We were unable to update our final days in the DR because the internet was out so much. Our plan was to update fully when we got back. But that didn’t happen.

We arrived back in Lexington about 2:00 am Sunday morning. Nicki’s parents have always helped with the kids when we’ve had to go out of town. This was no different.

We snuck quietly in the house and went straight to bed. We woke up a few hours later to fill in Nicki’s parents all about the trip. Cyrus was there and Emma and her family came over.

Nicki’s parents headed up the road that afternoon- but not before stocking the fridge with dinner for the night (& beer!). And we unpacked and napped.

Tuesday morning Nicki got a call that her dad had passed in his sleep. We were devastated by the unexpected news.

But so grateful we saw him just 36 hours prior and he got to spend time with his grandkids and great grandkids the week before.
